CASTING FOR READING:
Hey everyone! I’m looking for a few actors to participate in a reading I’m holding for a new script I wrote that I’d like to film later this year. This opportunity is paid, and will be held in San Francisco on Saturday, May 21, from 1pm to no later than 4pm.
PROJECT: “Crocker Amazon,” a holiday comedy about a group of lifelong working-class friends in the city who gather every Thanksgiving after their respective family dinners to swap stories of the good, the bad, and the ugly. This year is different, however, because one of the friends is bringing a new girl with him, and her sophistication clashes with the more down-home and vulgar feel of her boyfriend’s friends.
ROLES:
ANDY (30s, Latino): English adjunct professor at SF City College, the one bringing his new girl over. Outwardly the most nerdy of the group of friends, and the one with the most useless trivia in his brain. He code-switches excellently, vacillating from “professional working academic” one moment, and “latchkey working-class kid” the next.
CALVIN (30s, Black): a line-cook by day and comic book nerd by night. The most mature of the group of friends and the most level-headed. Also, a big Giants fan who keeps his love of performing arts somewhat secret, due to his friends’ constant teasing.
SYLVIA (30s, Latina): elementary school teacher who loves her job and loves children, but also loves cutting loose during the weekends. Deadpan humor and, unlike most of the other characters, completely happy and secure in her position in life.
NOLA (30s, Black): elementary school teacher who doesn’t know how to relax. A constant ball of exhaustion and cynicism, Nola is bothered that she isn’t recognized by her family for her academic and career achievements, and doesn’t realize how many people do care for her.
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you!
