“Appropriate” by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins

Auditions will take place on
Saturday, March 21 from 5pm-8pm and
Sunday, March 22 from 1-4pm
Auditioners will be seen on a first come, first served basis. You do not have to be present for entire block of time.
Please prepare a one-minute monologue from a contemporary play. Additionally, sides of scenes and/or monologues will be provided.
Performances take place July 17-24.
Rehearsals will begin late April.
Play description:
Dark secrets emerge as three siblings gather at their late father’s old plantation home in this daring drama. Full of shocking moments, dark comedy, and heavy subject matter, this play is not for the faint of heart. Actors must be comfortable with adult language and content.
CHARACTERS – Note: It is important that all characters present as white, due to the story’s major theme of racism.
Antoinette “Toni” Lafayette : the oldest sibling, white, woman, late 40s/early 50s, trying to hold it all together but not succeeding
Rhys Thurston : Toni’s son, white, late teens, actor must be 18 or over but look younger, fresh from rehab, over it all
Beauregarde “Bo” Lafayette : ALREADY CAST. the middle sibling, white, man, late 40s/early 50s, well-meaning business man who worries about the bottom line
Rachael Kramer-Lafayette : Bo’s wife, white, late 40s, protective mom trying to make family memories
*Cassidy “Cassie” Kramer-Lafayette : their older child, white, girl, early teens, thinks she is an adult and tries to prove it
*Ainsley Kramer-Lafayette : their younger child, white, boy, under 10 years old, overactive, curious, no spoken lines but important to the action
Francois “Franz/Frank” Lafayette : the youngest sibling, white, man, late 30s/early 40s, returning after a long disappearance, a changed man
River Rayner : Franz’s fiancee, white, woman, early 20s, but looks younger, supportive, looks for the good in everything/everyone, believes in spirits
