Sonoma Arts Live
Sonoma Arts Live is producing Ain’t Misbehavin’, one of the most popular musical revues of all time and winner of the 1978 Tony Award for Best Musical. This sassy, sultry celebration of legendary jazz great Fats Waller, features five dynamic performers in an evening of rowdy, raunchy, and humorous songs that encapsulate the moods of this vibrant Harlem renaissance era. It will be directed by Aja Gianola-Norris. Music Direction by Neil Fontano, choreography by Tyehimba Kokayi.
We are looking for African-American actors for the following roles:
Charlaine‐ Female Age 20‐30. Mezzo, Vocal range top: G5, bottom: G3. Must dance well (tap a plus)
A sweet, young lady. A ball of energy and positive vibes with an infectious zest for life.
Ken‐ Male Age 25‐45. Bari‐Tenor, Vocal range top: C6, bottom: D3. Must move well
Physically robust, but light on his feet, with a gargantuan appetite for life, love and laughs. He’s never met a woman he didn’t love. A surrogate Fats Waller.
André‐ Male Age 25‐45. High Baritone, Vocal range top: E6, bottom: G2. Must dance well (tap a plus)
An unrepentant party hound. A flirt and a bit of a womanizer. Smooth as silk and hot as a pistol.
Reimbursement of $500 per actor. Limited local housing available during weekends of runs. Due to California State statute AB-5, all actors will be volunteers. However, per fiscal year, Sonoma Arts Live is allowed to provide its volunteer actors a reimbursement stipend of $150 for ensemble members, $250 for featured roles, and $500 for lead roles in a musical, toward food and transportation expenses. Sonoma Arts Live will not be accepting any Equity contract actors at this time.
A bit about Sonoma Arts Live
Sonoma Arts Live is committed to the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion. SAL is interested in casting actors of all backgrounds, inclusive of race/ethnicity, disability, gender identity, and age.
Rehearsal periods are typically 5-6 weeks long and run Sunday through Thursday evenings until Tech period – not everyone called to every rehearsal, of course.
Sonoma Arts Live has won multiple TBA awards, Marquee Theater Journalists awards, and SFBATCC awards.
Our theater, just blocks from Sonoma’s historic plaza filled with tasting rooms and unique shops, is 107 years old with a beautiful proscenium arch. It seats 99 on the floor, with additional balcony seating.
We have a team of professionals backstage. You are in good hands. We have a full-time Artistic Director, an Executive Director, and longtime staff running lights and sound with our own equipment.
Sonoma Arts Live requires all actors auditioning and participating in our shows to show proof of vaccination. All of our staff are fully vaccinated. Our theater features six hepa filtration systems, and one for our dressing room. Our theater is professionally cleaned after every performance.
