AUGUST WILSON’S FENCES
This audition notice will be active until June 10th OR until we cast these roles (whichever occurs first)
Note: This is a non-union, all volunteer production. There is no pay
We are casting the following roles ONLY:
Troy Maxson
Troy is 53 years old. He is a working class African American man who lives with his wife, Rose, and son, Corey, in the Hill District of Pittsburgh (1957-1965). He is a large man with thick hands, heavy hands; it is the largeness that he strives to fill out and make an accommodation with. Together with his blackness, his largeness informs his sensibilities and the choice he has made in his life. Troy is a tragic-hero; he is dedicated to a fault to providing for his family and to making sure his sons have better lives than he has had. His past mistakes and failures greatly influence his outlook on life and his relationship with his sons.
Rose Maxson
Troy’s wife and mother of his second child, Cory. Rose is a forty-three year-old African American housewife who volunteers at her church regularly and loves her family. Her devotion to Troy stems from her recognition of the possibilities of her life without him; a succession of abusive men and their babies, a life of partying and running the streets, the Church, or aloneness with its attendant pain and frustration.
Raynell Maxon: African American
Age 7-10
Troy’s daughter
