Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park 2022 Auditions:
Much Ado About Nothing
Written by William Shakespeare
Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park – Ren-Style! Yes, we’ve transitioned to presenting our shows in this exciting new old-way of making theater! Vallejo Shakespeare is seeking actors to join our 2022 production. Some roles precast. Color and gender blind non-traditional casting. Join us this summer as we create a story of quick wit and unrequited love. Entering our 12th season, we will be mounting Much Ado About Nothing Ren-Style – this means we mimic the way shows were produced during the Renaissance. Actors are only provided a cue script not the entire play and come in fully memorized and off book, and we will have a prompter off stage during the run. Rehearsals will be limited to approximately 24 hours (~10-14 days) of live rehearsals prior to opening the final weekend in July. We will be performing live from the final weekend in July. The production will follow all current pandemic protocols.
We are interested in finding actors, musician/actors, clowns (Non-Equity) looking to hone their Shakespeare skills as well as shape up their craft working in the great outdoors, against the backdrop of society. We build in Vallejo and travel our show to Martinez, Benicia and Oakland. Plus two evening shows. $250 stipend plus pass-the-hat at park performances.
Performance dates are:
July 30 & 31, 4 pm Hanns Park, Vallejo
Aug 6, 4pm City Park, Benicia
Aug 7, 4pm Susana Park, Martinez
Aug 13, 4pm Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, Oakland
Aug 14, 4pm location TBD
Aug 19 & 20 7pm location TBD
Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park aims to provide professional performance opportunities to Bay Area actors of color, various gender identities, and women through non-traditional casting. We want our productions to reflect the community in which they are performed and help our audience connect to classical theater with exciting contemporary staging.
We believe the arts are an important part of the fabric of a community and we want to do our part to ensure a thriving arts environment and help raise the value of the arts as a public benefit. We present a “bare-bones” production, concentrating on the actor’s performances and honest storytelling, with minimal set and modern dress.
