seeking submissions of pre-recorded performances
CALL FOR BLACK DISABLED ARTISTS-
We the People is seeking submissions of pre-recorded performances by and from Black disabled artists to feature as part of an upcoming online fundraiser event, We the People present: A Call to Action. Performances can be anything; poetry, dance, music, or anything else artists are excited to share, and the artists we feature will be paid for their work. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the artists, as well as The #LetUsBreathe Collective, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and the Marsha P. Johnson Institute. The aim of the event is to give Black artists a platform to celebrate Black joy, Black perspectives, and Black lives via performance, without having to do any of the organizational work. Event details are as follows:
WHEN: Sunday, June 28th, at 3pm PST/5pm CST/6pm EST
WHAT TO SUBMIT: Pre-recorded performance pieces between 5-7 minutes long, ideally focused around the theme “A Call to Action.”
ACCOMMODATIONS: The organizers are currently working to engage an ASL theatrical interpreter for the event but cannot guarantee one will be available. Please include any accommodations you will need in your message.
WHO ARE WE: We the People is a collaboration between 4 artists of color working to:
Uplift and center Black voices
Provide a public platform for Black artists to express themselves in whatever way they feel moved to
Raise funds to support these artists
Raise funds and awareness for organizations fighting for Black liberation
If you are interested in submitting a piece, please send it, along with a short bio and any accommodation needs, and feel free to reach out with any questions! If we are interested in featuring your piece, we will reach out to you directly.
Thank you for your time, we look forward to hearing from you!
