Synopsis:
Taking care of an egg for health class? Easy. Taking care of an egg that hatches into an actual human child? That is a bit harder, especially alone. But this is the situation facing young Harper Ales in Embryo. This short film sets itself in a surreal world where humans hatch from eggs, but the difficult choices of single parenting and adoption are just as pertinent.
Character Bios
[HARPER ALES] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 23-28] [LEAD]
Harper is a first-time single mother at a young age. All the awe and fear that comes with that responsibility is multiplied by her low income and an unexpected C-Section surgery. At heart she is an idealist and artistic dreamer, committed to raising her egg and future child herself.
[DR. HARRIS] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 40-50]
Dr. Harris is an experienced gynecologist (or, in this world, an “Avgologist) with friendly but firm bedside manner. She cares deeply for her pregnant patients and understands the weight of her profession, as she herself is infertile.
[BETH] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 30-40]
A cheery and fiercely independent mother with one toddler at her side and one more in the incubator (oven). Pregnancy does not seem to slow her down. Despite not having a significant other yet, she is a powerhouse super mom.
[JARED] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 30-50]
Harper’s rough and uninviting neighbor. His hulking physique and love for blasting rock music at ungodly hours contributes to a naturally intimidating presence.
[ADOPTION WORKER] [GENDER: MALE OR FEMALE] [AGE: 30-50] [SUPPORTING]
A professional and tactful receptionist for an egg adoption clinic. They are a motivated social worker who wants to place all eggs and children into loving homes.
