If you’re interested in having your kids Audition for the role, please email a video audition of them performing a scene I’ve attached from the film ‘Kramer vs Kramer’.
Directors Note: The Short Film you are auditioning for is
heartfelt in many ways. It is a Drama intended to grab hold
of the viewers soul and have them think hard about where they
are in life in terms of their relationship with ones family.
The following excerpt is from the 1979 film ‘Kramer vs
Kramer’, in which Ted, The Father, is explaining to his child
Billie, that he will now be living with his mother after
losing custody over him in court.
To the Parent/Guardian of the Child Actor auditioning for
SOPHIE. Please read the part of TED with your Daughter. We
only want to see the actor auditioning for the role in-front
of the camera. Your Daughter should read the parts for
BILLIE.
TED
Billie, from now on you’ll be
living with your Mother.
BILLIE
I don’t understand.
TED
Well the problem is Mommy and I
both want you to live with us, see.
So that’s why we decided to go see
this man, who I told you is ‘The
Judge’. And we let him decide
because he’s very wise and
experienced about these things.See,
We talked to him for a few days and
after that we asked him what he
thought. You know what he said? If
you’d be with mommy, he thought
that would be a terrific Idea.
You’ll move in with her and live
there from now on. And I’m really
lucky, because I get to have dinner
with you once a week. And two times
a month we spend the weekends
together.
BILLIE
Where’s my bed gonna be? Where am I
gonna sleep?
TED
Oh, mommy’s figured that all out.
You have your own bedroom at her
place.
BILLIE
Where are all my toys gonna be?
2.
TED
At mommys! We’re going to take all
your toys over there. If you play
your cards right, I bet you she’ll
buy you some new ones.
BILLIE
Who’s going to read me my bed time
stories?
TED
Mommy will.
BILLIE
You’re not going to kiss me
goodnight anymore are you dad?
TED
No, I won’t- I won’t be able to do
that. But, you know I’ll- I get to
visit. – It’s gonna be OK, really.
BILLIE
If I don’t like it can I come home?
TED
What do you mean if you don’t like
it? You’re gonna have a great time
with mommy, really, she loves you
so much.
BILLIE
Dad? Don’t forget once, if you
could just call me up, ok?
A beat.
TED
We’re going to be Ok. – C’mon let’s
go get some ice-cream.
