***CASTING CALL (PAID)***
In mid-2000s SoCal suburbia a Biracial teenager feels caught between her clashing White American father and Ethiopian mother. Her parents’ relationship reflects the internal pressure she feels to choose a side – should she choose her Western or Ethiopian culture?
Target Shooting Dates: August 2021
18 to 25 years old. Biracial female (half black / half white). A 16 year old teenager navigating her biracial identity while feeling caught between her Ethiopian culture and Western culture. Mostly a peacekeeper who avoids dealing with real conflict, but kind, curious, and often unintentionally comedic. MUST PASS FOR 16 YEARS OLD.
40 to 50 years old. Ethiopian/Habesha. Charming as hell and naturally warm. The first to laugh and smile, but equally FIERY. Whatever she’s feeling will be known. Motherhood and commitment to family is her number one priority. Appears overprotective of her daughter, Tsehai, who she holds an intimate mother-daughter bond with. MUST SPEAK AMHARIC FLUENTLY.
40 to 50 years old. White male. Once a hippy, now turned “businessman” to provide for his family. The proud father of Tsehai who loves a light-hearted banter with his daughter. A diehard liberal that’s always been the black sheep of his conservative extended family.
30 to 40 years old. Ethiopian/Habesha. Tsehai’s only blood-related auntie. Stoic and powerful by nature. She’s a lawyer and you can tell. Now, she’s a soon to be bride who put off marriage until her 30s (late by Ethiopian standards) because she always prioritized her education and career. MUST SPEAK AMHARIC FLUENTLY.
35 to 45 years old. Ethiopian/Habesha. Tsehai’s “auntie” (not blood related). A true Ethiopian patriot when it comes to tradition. Humorous and silly. The auntie who cares more about playing matchmaker than encouraging good grades. MUST SPEAK AMHARIC FLUENTLY.
70 to 80 years old. White female. Midwestern vibes. Upper middle class. The matriarch of her household. Tsehai’s grandmother. Cordial and conservative. Fashionable and always looks her best. Doesn’t like to talk politics at the dinner table.
45 to 55 years old. White male. Tsehai’s hotheaded uncle. Upper middle class. Hardcore conservative and a seemingly high-functioning alcoholic. Can’t stand his progressive brother Paul.
45 to 55 years old. White female. Tsehai’s aunt (married into the family). Upper middle class. John’s wife. Conservative, submissive, nice. Doesn’t like to rock the boat.
