CASTING CALL AT Town Hall Theatre :
THE CHILDREN’S FARM by Sean Dunnington
Directed by Ciera Eis
“Sam wraps herself in fantastic worlds of wonder and queerness after running away to her cousins Joey and Lauren (and their sock puppets), but when reality threatens her fantasy and buried seeds burst to the surface, it’s socks off for all.”
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR- Please do not try to play these characters as unknowing children. Children are often more complexthan we assume.
Sam: 10 / 15 / 20 – the in-between cousin. Sam is trying to reconcile with her queer identity after being sent away by her very religious parents. Resilient and sweet with an untrusting shell. Sam is a fighter with a deep want for love through friendship and family, which also comes with a deeper fear of being abandoned. She copes through the creation of the Funny Farm, where she is able to express herself.
Joey: 9 / 14 / 19 – the younger brother. Joey is honest, sweet-natured, trusting, and affectionate. He is amicable and understanding until he is hurt. He believes in everything he does whole-heartedly. He is able to be vulnerable and express his feelings well due to starting therapy at such a young age. Currently discovering his own queer identity.
Lauren: 11 / 16 / 21 – the older sister. Lauren is confident, smart, persistent, and caring. Lauren is the mother-figure of the group and mature for her age. Even though she acts as the authority figure, she is able to tap into her silliness. She wants what’s best for the other children, but also knows how to get what she wants and is willing to try new tactics to achieve it.
Roxy: 10 / 15 – the special friend. Young at heart and yet ageless. Sam’s caretaker. She is a figment of Sam’s imagination based off of a young woman she had a crush on in grade school. Roxy knows how to have fun and is willing to play the games, but is also Sam’s rock, best friend, confidant, and voice of reason. A lot of love and care exists between her and Sam.
