female Latina actor/singer (18-25)
Magik Theatre is collaborating with Childsplay Theatre in Arizona on the world premiere production of SELENA MARIA SINGS by Miriam Gonzales, with music by Daniel French, and direction by Melissa Crespo. The production will rehearse and open in Phoenix in September and October and will transfer to Magik in San Antonio in February of 2022.
We are currently seeking a non-union female Latina actor/singer (18-25) to play the role of Selena Maria. Travel and lodging will be provided to actors from outside the Phoenix and San Antonio areas.
Selena Maria is an 8th grade girl (played by an adult actor). She was named after her mother’s favorite singer, Selena Quintanilla. Selena Maria is also a songwriter. She is a beatboxer and a singer/rapper. She has her own unique sound and style. She doesn’t think of herself as a singer. Her brother Rudy, who recently died in an accident, was considered the singer. Selena Maria and her mother, Felly, move to Corpus Christi to live with Felly’s sister, Vicky and her daughter after Rudy’s death. The play follows the daughter and mother as they find their ways through their own grief to a place of healing. Selena Maria discovers her voice. It’s amazing and her own.
