‘The Rise of Dreama Caldwell’ is a narrative depiction of a real life historical figure, whose journey through an unjust US bail system, compelled her to become an advocate and activist on the issue of bail reform.
We are auditioning:
Dreama-Lead- Female. African-American.Early-Mid 30s. 5 5″-5-9″. Plus-framed. Kind soul and strong-willed. Capable of great emotional range.
After Dreama is blamed for an incident out of her control, a warrant is issued for her arrest. Dreama is taken into custody and slapped with an outrageous $40,000 bail. After spending three nights in jail, she is thrust into a world where the cash bail system has completely taken over her life. Facing debt, unemployment and eviction, Dreama realizes her calling and begins a life of activism, including a candidacy for county commissioner. Her heroism and strength propel her to the forefront of the fight for cash bail reform.
Shooting dates: July 13th through 16th
About Songwriter Joe Troop: is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Winston-Salem. He’s also the founder of the GRAMMY-nominated string band, Che Apalache, based in Buenos Aires.
