Middle Eastern Males 10-12
Does your son like to act or perform? Would he like to be in a music-theatre production?
Hi all! My name is Nigel Maister and I am a director and writer. I work at the University of Rochester and also with an acclaimed “new music” group, “Alarm Will Sound” (https://www.alarmwillsound.com). We are doing a project that tells stories about the refugee experience with music and words. We are looking for a young boy (10-12 years of age) to be in the production. He will not have any words to speak, but he is the central “role” and will be performing onstage for the whole show. The performance, called Paper Pianos (https://www.alarmwillsound.com/projects/paper-pianos/), tells the stories of four refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan and Ethiopia in their own words, with music by the composer Mary Kouyoumdjian (http://www.marykouyoumdjian.com/). We’ve just workshopped the piece at EMPAC (https://empac.rpi.edu/) and it will premiere there in March 2022 (https://empac.rpi.edu/…/residencies/2021/paper-pianos). It will travel to NYC in 2024 and potentially to other venues thereafter. This is a paid opportunity for the performer (and for his guardian). We will try to work around school schedules. We are looking for a young man: someone who looks young (about 10 years of age) though he can actually be older (he will need to be fully vaccinated). He should be Middle Eastern (broadly) in origin/heritage and looks. He needs to understand English, but it does not need to be his first language. He must enjoy performing and be able to follow instructions. Someone who has links to or is a member of an immigrant or refugee community would be highly valued.
