“POLITE CONVERSATIONS AND WINE” BY MICHAEL PERLMUTTER

Directed by Michael Perlmutter
Produced by Eric R. Umali

Camarillo Skyway Playhouse is excited to announce auditions for an upcoming online presentation of an orginal play, Polite Conversations and Wine to be streamed the weekend of September 26th, 2020 (exact date and time TBD).

About the Play:

Alice and Lisa are a young married couple, ready to take the plunge into motherhood. And that deserves a celebration. And their mothers (Donna and Beth) may feel left out, so… there’ll be two parties. This one will just be the four of them. What could possibly go wrong with that?

Written as a memory play, the piece skips around various points during a single evening at Alice and Lisa’s place out of chronological order.

About Casting:

All roles are open to actors of all races, ethnicities, abilities, and body types who identify and present as female.

Casting Breakdown:

Narrator – Provides a framework and context for the action in lieu of the traditional on-stage presentation.

Donna – Old enough to be a grandmother.  A twentieth century woman dealing with a twenty-first century lifestyles.

Alice – Donna’s daughter, old enough to be a mother herself.  Embracing life, she sees this world through an accepting world view.

Lisa – Married to Alice and also old enough to be a mother.  Quick witted and protective.  She and Alice have a couple “thing” of back-and-forth banter requiring good chemistry.

Beth – Lisa’s mother. Like Donna, she too is old enough to be a grandmother.  More at peace with her daughter; she has all but lost a step-daughter to poor choices, wanting to stay a part of her own Lisa’s life.
