Call for actors for new community theatre project–unpaid.
The Belladonna Shakespeare Company is now casting for our inaugural production, William Shakespeare’s TITUS ANDRONICUS. The best worst play by the world’s best playwright, TITUS ANDRONICUS is a gory festival of revenge, disturbing classical allusions, and the worst pies in ancient Rome. Our production concept is “if you’re sitting in the first row, better bring a poncho: there will be blood.” Supported by a generous grant from the New York City Artist Corps, we will be performing on Halloweekend, 2021, celebrating the return of live theatre to New York City in the most hilariously gruesome way possible.
We are currently casting all roles: actors of all genders, ethnicities, and levels of experience are encouraged to audition. Auditions will be held on August 7th and 8th from 2-6 PM on the Upper West Side. Please prepare a one-minute classical monologue, comedic or tragic, and don’t worry about it fitting your “type”.
(CW: TITUS is a deeply bleak play, and includes on-stage sexual violence, gore, cannibalism, racism, and pretty much everything else, sometimes treated with a profound lack of seriousness in the text. We will do our absolute best to ensure that the process is as safe and positive as possible for everyone involved, but we also want people to know what that process is going to entail!)
