Described by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” OUR TOWN follows the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre – die. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, OUR TOWN depicts the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire in the early 1900’s.
There are roles for men and women of all ages and ethnicities.

STAGE MANAGER: M/F, 45 – 65. Narrates the play. Wise, warm, controls the action.
EMILY WEBB: F, 18 – 30. Innocent, sincere, strong emotional character. A romantic.
CHARLES WEBB: M, 35 – 60. Highly educated, town newspaper editor, father to Emily.
MYRTLE WEBB: F, 30-60. Emily’s mother, loves her family.
WALLY WEBB: M, 11-13. young, innocent, boy scout. Plays paper boy in Act II.
GEORGE WEBB: M, 18 – 30. Sincere, loves baseball, a natural leader. Strong emotional character.
DOC GIBBS: M, 30-60. George’s father, family man, wise town doctor.
JULIA GIBBS: F, 30-60. George’s mother, devoted to family, dreams of seeing Paris.
REBECCA GIBBS: F, 11-13. Energetic and precocious, loves astronomy.
JOE CROWELL: M, 11-16. Newspaper delivery boy.
HOWIE NEWSOME: M, 30-60. Rural type, delivers milk, friendly, knows everyone in town.
SIMON STIMPSON: M, 30 – 55. Leader of the church choir, drinking problem, sarcastic humor.
CONSTABLE WARREN: M, 30-60. Respectable, friendly.
MRS. SOAMES: F, 30-60. Sings in church choir, town gossip.
PROFESSOR WILLARD: M/F, any age over 30, befuddled and long winded intellectual.
SAM CRAIG: M/F. 30-45, left Grover’s Corners 12 yrs ago, returns for funeral. Emily’s cousin.
CHURCH CHOIR MEMBERS. May play other small roles.
